Even-handed, scholarly History
James McClintock wrote with a fair and open mind on a subject that, at the time, was almost exclusively written from either a partisan Mormon or Anti-Mormon view. He frankly admired much of the pioneer spirit and resolute determination of these people to civilize the wilderness. He considered the agricultural and entrepreneurial bent of these settlers to be far superior to the transient prospectors, miners, and exploiting fellow travelers that previously had populated Arizona. The effect of numbers of families settling an area, starting schools, churches, and other institutions of civility, was much more powerful than many have realized. A great Arizona historical reference.
